 Stephan Kurr "The Blind Man No 3" April 2005The Blind Man No 3 Ryllega Gallery, Hanoi, 24. – 30.April 200 Der Titel “The Blind Man No3" bezieht sich auf die Zeitschrift “The Blind Man", die in nur 2 Ausgaben 1917 in New York erschien. Beide Ausgaben initiieren den Skandal um das Readymade “Fontaine” von Marcel Duchamp. Für die Ryllega Gallery, Hanoi, Vietnam, designte ich eine Uniform für eine Galerieaufsicht. Ich stellte einen Blinden als Aufsicht an, der diese Uniform trug. Die Galerie blieb leer, bis auf die Aufsicht und ihrem Stuhl. Die Aufsicht war Kunstwerk und gleichzeitig Vermittler der Arbeit. “C’est le regardeur qui fait le tableau." (Der Betrachter vollendet das Bild) Marcel Duchamp “Beloje na Belomj" (Weiß auf Weiß) ist der Titel eines Gemäldes von Kasimir Malevich “Zeige deine Wunde" ist der Titel einer Installation von Joseph Beuys “What you see is what you get" ist eine amerikanische Redewendung, die wesentlich die amerikanische Moderne prägte. Die 4 Zitate waren als Original und in ihrer Übersetzung auf visitenkartengroße Kärtchen gedruckt. Die Aufsicht überreichte wenn sie Lust hatte eine Karte an einen Besucher. Da die Aufsicht blind war, wusste sie nicht, welche Karte sie aushändigte. 
The Blind Man No 3 Ryllega Gallery, Hanoi, 24. – 30.April 200 “The Blind Man No.3", refers to the art magazine “The Blind Man" which was edited in New York in 1917. The two editions that were released, launched the scandal around the “fountain” by Marcel Duchamp. For the exhibition at Ryllega Gallery, Hanoi, Viet Nam, I designed a guard’s uniform. I hired a blind person to wear the uniform and to mediate the artwork. The gallery was empty; there was only the guard and his chair. “C’est le regardeur qui fait le tableau." (It is the viewer who makes the image.) Marcel Duchamp “Beloje na Belomj" (White on White) is the title of a painting by Kasimir Malevich “Zeige deine Wunde" (Show your wound) is the title of an installation by Joseph Beuys “What you see is what you get" is an American saying and one of the fundamental thoughts of American modernity. The 4 different quotes, printed on cards, one side the original, one side the Vietnamese translation, were handed out occasionally to the viewer, by the blind guard. As he was blind he could not tell which card he gave to a person. |
